Keynote Speakers

Professor Ayşe Göker, an academic at City University London and an entrepreneur who developed innovative mobile applications as co-founder of AmbieSense, has accepted to deliver the plenary speech at the 15th International Conference on Electronic Publishing, to be held from June 22-24, 2011, in Kadir Has University, Istanbul, Turkey.  In her keynote speech, entitled “Information in Context: The Mobile Environment“, Professor Göker will talk about the digital publishing in the mobile environment and discuss the distinctive nature of mobile search and retrieval including not only the location but also the context in which mobile users are engaged such as task in hand, environment, device, individual interests and social aspects.  Dr. Göker will provide further insights as to why context is essential for mobile users, underscores the importance of refining our understanding of what constitutes mobile based on realistic experiments along with developing innovative mobile applications. Dr. Zeynep İnanoğlu, a former Gates Scholar who currently heads the Product Marketing Department at Google Turkey, has accepted to deliver an invited speech at the the 15th International Conference on Electronic Publishing, to be held from June 22-24, 2011, in Kadir Has University, Istanbul, Turkey.   In her speech, entitled “Google Art Project: Democratizing Art“, Dr. İnanoğlu will discuss the role of Google Art Project in making works of art more accessible and in creating a new generation of art lovers who can experience, enjoy and appreciate art works using state of the art technology including mobiles. Dr. Fazlı Can, Professor of Computer Science at Bilkent University and an expert in information retrieval , has accepted to deliver an invited speech at the the 15th International Conference on Electronic Publishing, to be held from June 22-24, 2011, in Kadir Has University, Istanbul, Turkey.   In his speech, entitled “Mobile Information Retrieval: Memex on the Move“, Professor Can will outline the major developments in information retrieval within the last 70 years and concentrate on mobile information retrieval along with the opportunities and challenges wrought about by mobile devices.  He will underline the importance of various mobile information retrieval experiments including location-based services, machine translation and augmented reality applications.
